Topic: Open bites Orthodontist nightmare

If you ask an Orthodontist which dimension is the most difficult to treat, the consensus is the Vertical. Which malocclusion is the most challenging to face and even more difficult to retain is the Open bites. I will present my journey to this malocclusion and how I approach it through the years. Treat or even Retreat these cases is not an easy task. We need patient’s compliance and understanding during treatment and even more during retention. Whom to blame in the relapses is easy: tongue, breath, skeletal deviations, patient’s cooperation, doctor’s capability. Can we be proactive to face these environmental and genetic problems, to achieve an optimum result that both satisfies esthetics and function. Is it possible to offer a long-lasting smile to our patients and can we predict to whom it will come back.
Our armamentarium has new weapons that even the patients are aware of Plates, Tads, Aligners, non-invasive techniques that are advertised in the new digital world. We are the experts to see the mouth and the patient as a whole entity and to give them our honest and more suitable solution to their smile.
